African Child Development Resource Lending Library

Our Stories Our Knowledge Our Wisdom Our Future

Our Resource Lending Library was established in 1998 by a host of individuals of African descent who understood the importance of strengthening our children’s knowledge of who we are as a people and as a community.

This is especially important for our youngest children as they develop their concept of self.

Through the resources in our library, we seek to help our children see themselves as a part of community for which they are responsible and to whom they are accountable. We want them to know their/our story from past to present. We want to give them clear and consistent expectations for achieving academic excellence and that our expectations are based upon the intellectual inheritance and traditions of African peoples. We want our children to know their unique beauty, strengths, and greatness.

This knowledge must be instilled through a deliberate process of a cultural education.

We believe that providing this cultural education is our (the community's) primary responsibility and is paramount to equipping our children with the tools for
building our communities of tomorrow.
